Representing Post #801, Commander John C. Sullivan and his wife Karen attended the 2011 Veteran
of the Year event sponsored by the Summit County Veterans Service Commission. Following a Social
Hour, colors were posted by the Garfield High School Jr. Naval ROTC Honor Guard. David A. Burden,
FSC Project Manager, led the invocation. It was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Richard
Rauch and a welcome extended by Bruce Hestley, President.
Laura Dunlop received the James Seminaroti Award for her many years of volunteer service.
Congresswoman Betty Sutton presented a Proclamation and the American Legion's Jack Ryan
presented a special award. Col. Julie Blike, Director of Family Readiness and Warrior Support, Ohio
Army National Guard, was the keynote speaker.
VFW Firestone Post #3383 sponsored the social hour and the use of their spacious hall.
